Glass Beads and ways to use them

This page will outline the different type of glass beads you can use in your handmade jewelry designs. I find that all these types of beads are essential in my jewelry making practice!

Bead Type 1: Seed Beads

Seed beads are very small, rounded glass beads that come in many different colors. Seed beads are easy to find and are great for creating fine beaded strands for attaching charms. You can also use seed beads in your DIY jewelry designs as spacers between larger, more elaborate beads. I love using rainbow beads to add fun and color to my jewelry designs.

Bead Type 2: E-Beads

This necklace was made using red coral beads with black e bead spacers.

E-beads are a larger version of the seed bead. These glass beads come in a range of colors and can have a matte or glossy finish. They can be used in DIY jewelry making in a similar manner to seed beads. I think they look especially good when paired with gemstone beads.

Bead Type 3: Bugle Beads

This necklace was made using an assortment of glass beads including white bugle beads

Bugle beads look like thin colored tubes. They are often used in DIY jewelry making in a similar manner to seed beads and e beads. I really like mixing bugle beads with seed and e-beads to add texture to my jewelry. I really like how shiny and sparkly bugle beads are.

Bead Type 4: Fancy Handmade Glass Beads

Handmade glass beads can come in all shapes and sizes and many are totally unique. Fancy glass beads can be used as a design feature in your own DIY jewelry designs. You can use these however you like but I think that many of the glass beads I have used in my designs look great when paired with smaller beads.
