Jump Rings
Jump rings are small metal rings that can be opened and closed. They are used in DIY jewelry to secure different components together, for example, a jump ring can be used to attach a charm to a necklace chain or a clasp to a beaded necklace. I use them in nearly every project! They certainly are handy to have around.
See our DIY jewelry making tutorials for some examples of how jump rings can be used.

Pins
Head pins
Head pins are a great material in DIY jewelry making. They can be used in your DIY jewelry designs for creating bead charms that can be added to earrings or used as pendants. The head at the base of the pin stops beads from sliding off, while the top of the pin can be shaped into a loop, ready to be attached to your chosen finding. I use head pins to make simple earrings and charms.
Here are some more head pin tutorials:
Eye pins
Eye pins are similar to head pins, but instead of a head at one end, eye pins have a pre-formed loop to stop the bead from sliding away. Eye pins can be used in DIY jewelry to create beaded linking charms.

Clasps
Lobster Clasps
Lobster clasps are great for securing your DIY beaded necklace designs. They can be attached to the end of your beading wire using crimps or jump rings. I don’t recommend using these clasps on bracelets as they can be difficult to operate one handed. However, lobster clasps can be a great option for finishing off anklets.
Here is a tutorial that shows you how you can use lobster clasps in your designs: How to make a body chain bra
Screw Clasps
Screw clasps are also a great option for finishing off your DIY necklace designs. Like the Lobster clasp, screw clasps are not a great option for bracelets as they are tricky to open and close one handed. Screw clasps are another great option for securing anklets.
This braided charm bracelet tutorial shows you how screw clasps can be used in your designs.
Toggle Clasps
This is my favorite style of clasp. The toggle clasp is easy to open and close one handed and can be used as a distinct design feature on your DIY jewelry. The toggle clasp is great clasp to use when making necklaces and bracelets.
